Second-best result for EV sales ever!

Global plug-in electric car sales reached the second-best result ever this past month: The total sales exceeded 264,500 vehicles according to EV Sales Blog, at a growth rate of 67% YOY. The market share improved to 3.3% - so on average, every 30th car sold worldwide is a plug-in.

The switch to all-electric cars continues, as in June 76% of all plug-ins were pure electric vehicles, sales of which doubled YOY (+104%).

During the first six months of 2019 more than 1,117,000 plug-ins were sold at an average market share of 2.4%.

Ford and Centrica join forces on EV charging

One of Driivz largest customers, Centrica are cooperating with Ford and set to offer new electric vehicle services in the UK and Ireland as the UK’s biggest selling car manufacturer accelerates its electrified vehicle plans in Europe.

Under the planned partnership, Ford will work exclusively with Centrica to deliver a dedicated home charging installation service and EV tariffs from British Gas and Bord Gáis Energy that will allow Ford customers to benefit from lower energy prices for overnight charging.

We believe, that the management of home-chargers can improve the drivers’ experience as well as generate a wholistic view of charging and energy usage.

Centrica will also make its installation service available to support hundreds of Ford dealerships across the UK and Ireland. Further details of the partnership will be announced closer to launch.

Good news for Canada

The Canadian government has announced a 4.6$ million investment in Petro-Canada to build 92 fast chargers, as part of a larger, $182.5 million investment to build a coast-to-coast charging network and support other zero-emission and low-carbon projects.

We see DC Fast chargers on highways as a critical component for the success of the EV market in Canada with its long-distance highways.

So far, 500 fast chargers have been built or planned for this year, with hundreds more expected over the next two years. As part of its 2019 budget, Canada is also investing over a further 130 million in charging infrastructure and funding a new incentive, worth up to $5,000¸ for purchase/lease of a zero-emission vehicle.

As for EV sales, Transport Canada has announced that during the first three months of Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles Program launching in Canada on May 1, 2019 (May, June and July), more than 14,000 BEV/PHEV/FCV cars were purchased or leased.

Customers can switch to zero-emission vehicles with up to $5,000 CAD if they decide on BEVs, FCVs and long-range PHEVs (short-range ones are eligible for $2,500 CAD). The official stats for the first half of 2019 are: plug-in car market share increased to roughly 3% (up from 2% YOY); sales increased 30% YOY.
